Windward U13 Through to Semi-Final


Dhaniram Dharamdeo made 46 not out from 37 balls

The Novel Sports supported Windward Under 13 team travelled to Dayrells Road to face Wanderers in the Quarter Final match of the Barbados Cricket Supplies Under 13 Tournament on Sunday April 2nd. Winning the toss and opting to field first under sunny skies with temperatures nearing 30C, Ben Shepherd opened the bowling for the Lucas Street Lads and set the trend with tight lines and good length deliveries, ending the day with figures of 2 wickets for 22 runs in 5 overs with the ball, the first wicket, that of opening batsman T. Bassawan who was bowled having 10 runs to his credit in the 3rd over. Malachi Pooler was next to claim a Wanderers wicket, when he caught and bowled T.Brits in the 18th over, the score now 90 for 2, and bringing Rajay Parsooram to the crease. Windward’s Stephano Springer took the third wicket of the day in the 25th over when he bowled T. Harewood who had 16 runs to his credit, and the score having moved onto 137 for 3. Parsooram’s wicket was next to fall when he was caught by Pooler off the bowling of Alex Armstrong, having made 64 runs from 52 balls faced, the scoreboard reading 147 for 4 with 14 overs remaining. Two overs later Armstrong bowled J. Joseph, the score having advanced to 154 for 5. Captain Dhaniram Dharamdeo took the final two Wanderers wickets of the day, bowling both D. Thompson-Estwick and K. Hamblin with the latter’s wicket falling with one over remaining and the score now 168 for 8, they would add a further 2 runs by the end of the their innings, having 170/8. Dharamdeo ended the day with 1 Maiden, 17 runs and 2 wickets from his 5 overs, Levi Rowe 1 Maiden, 20 runs and 2 wickets from his 5 overs, and Aaron Blackman only allowed 22 runs during his 5 overs with the ball. After lunch, Pooler and Armstrong opened the batting for the green and gold, and put up a 48 run partnership which ended when Pooler was bowled by N. Carrington in the 11th over, having made 19 runs from 48 balls faced. Armstrong was then joined by Vice Captain, Michael Symes, and they too enjoyed a productive partnership of 32 runs when Armstrong was caught by Bassawan off the bowling of Hamblin in the 18th over, bringing Dharamdeo to join Symes in the middle, with the pair carrying the score to 173 for 2 with 4 overs to spare, Symes having 35 not out from 56 balls and Dharamdeo making 46 not out from 37 balls. The Semi-Final match will take place on Friday April 28th (Heros Day) when Windward Juniors travel to the Foursquare Oval to face Pickwick, who handed Windward their sole defeat this season.
