Updated: Mar 21, 2023

Malachi Pooler made 50 runs against St. Catherines.

Windward’s Under 13 team handed the St. Catherine’s Barracudas their first defeat of the tournament when they won their match by 5 wickets on Sunday at Lucas Street. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, the visitors started off strong, scoring 36 runs in under 5 overs when their captain, J. Batson was run out having made 16 runs from 9 deliveries. 10 Overs later, S. Sargeant was caught by Levi Rowe off the bowling of Alex Armstrong, with the score having moved to 83/2. K. Innings was the next Barracuda to be returned to the pavilion when he was run out 4 overs later having 4 runs to his credit. Three balls later, opening batsman S. Gittens was caught at deep square by Malachi Pooler off the bowling of Dhaniram Dharamdeo, with the scoreboard now showing 101/4. K. Clarke was then caught behind by Michael Symes off the bowling of Rowe 3 overs later, the score now 122/5. Wickets continued to fall in short order with Hinkson, Thompson, Aymes, Howard and Maynard all being returned to the clubhouse, having gotten a total of 4 runs. St. Catherines ended their innings with 136 all out. The Lucas Street Lads bowling effort was greatly improved over last weeks match against Pickwick, when they allowed 85 runs from extras, compared to 47 against St. Catherines. Alex Bowe had a flawless spell of 3 overs while allowing a paltry 6 runs, while Dharamdeo took 2 for 19 in the 4.5 overs with the ball, and Alex Armstrong took 4 for 21 in his 5 overs. Opening the batting for the Gold & Green were the pair of Alex Armstrong and Malachi Pooler who had an opening partnership of 94 when Armstrong was run out on 34 at the end of the 17th over, and replaced by Michael Symes who faced 32 balls and managed 8 runs when he was bowled by J. Batson. Dharamdeo joined Pooler in the middle briefly, being retuned to the pavilion after facing 3 balls and having a single run to his credit, the score now 130/3 with 6 overs remaining. Stephano Springer was also dismissed with 1 run to his credit, when he was declared out Leg Before Wicket with the score tied. Opening batsman Malachi Pooler (pictured above) finally surrendered his wicket, having scored 50 runs from 84 balls faced during his 2 hours at bat, the score still tied with 4 overs remaining. Windward won the match, surpassing the required 136 runs in 31.4 overs. We await word from the organisers on who we will face, and where, for the Quarter Final match of the BCS Under 13 tournament.
