Elite Through to Finals of BCA T20 Cup Competition

Windward’s Elite squad defeated YMPC by 6 wickets in the BCA T20 Cup semi-final match played at Weymouth on Saturday. After winning the toss and inviting the Bayview Urgent Care supported side to bat first, Windward struck early, when Naje Bishop caught Raymond Kellman off the bowling of Matthew Alleyne at the end of the first over, with the opening pair having managed just 2 runs. Bishop would feature in the next wicket, when he caught Kemal Smith off Jarion Hoyte in the ninth over, the score then 61/2. Chad Williams caught and bowled Edwin Currency-Barnett six overs later, Currency-Barnett scored 67 from 46 deliveries, striking four 4s and three 6s. The score then 106/3 with 5 overs remaining in the innings. Hoyte would take his second wicket of the innings the very next over, when Jadan Jones was caught by Rico Wiggins with 8 runs being added to the score. Ranaldo Kellman would be caught by Seth Agard off the bowling of Akobi Crichlow-Byer in the eighteenth over, the score advancing to 135/5, with 15 balls remaining in the innings. YMPC ended their innings with a score of 158/6. Jarion Hoyte ended the day with figures of 2/27, while Amari Goodridge took 1/22, Matthew Alleyne 1/30, Chad Williams 1/33 and Akobi Crichlow-Byer was 1/34.
Opening the batting for the Lucas Street Lads were the pair of Seth Agard and Jafari Toppin, the latter wasting no time in signalling his intention to go after the YMPC bowling, hitting a four on the first ball he faced, followed by another four the very next ball. Toppin would repeat this in the next over, hitting two more fours off the bowling of Damian Davis, carrying the score to 22 without loss after just two overs. Toppin would hit two more fours in the third over, while Agard got in the action with a pair of his own in the fourth over. Toppin hit the first 6 of the innings off the bowling of Shamar Marshall, but would lose his wicket the very next ball when he was caught by Damian Davis, having made 35 runs off 21 deliveries, striking six 4s and one 6. Skipper Tennyson Roach Jr joined Agard in the middle with the score on 51/1. YMPC bowler, Kemar Smith was given the ball for the sixth over, and reigned in the run rate, allowing just 5 runs in the over, Agard taking four, with Roach starting tentatively with a single. Roach would attack Smith's bowling in his next over, taking 10 runs from 3 balls, but then losing his wicket to Smith before the end of the 8th over, the score having moved to 76/2. Rico Wiggins joined Agard at the wicket and the pair of Agard and Wiggins added a further 42 runs in 7 overs, when Wiggins was caught and bowled on 22 from 23 deliveries, Windward requiring 41 runs with 5 overs remaining. Chad Williams joined Agard and this pair took the score to 144/4 when Agard was bowled by Davis at the start of the 17th over, having made 55 runs from 44 deliveries, striking five 4s along the way. Naje Bishop took his guard and got off the mark with a single on his second delivery faced, putting Williams on strike. Williams then hit a four, carrying the score to 150/4 with 9 runs required from 2 overs remaining. Williams would then get 2 runs, hit a six, and run a quick single to reach the required target with 9 balls to spare. Windward will play the UWI Blackbirds who beat defending champions Gladiola by 4 runs. The match is scheduled to take place at Kensington Oval on Saturday 26th of July from 2pm, with a reserve day of August 9th.
