Windward reign over Lords

1st Division Captain, Latrell Greenidge made 49 runs off 26 balls against Lords

Windward’s first division hosted Lords at Lucas Street on Sunday and elected to field first when they won the toss under bright sunny skies. Opening the bowling for the Sagicor supported Windward side was spinner Matthew Alleyne who led the bowling attack, allowing just 12 runs from 4 overs. Maxwell Lewis had similar figures at the end of the innings, having allowed 15 runs from his 4 overs with the ball while Adjani Watkins took 1 wicket for 21 runs from 4 overs. Lords’ opening pair of Leroy Johnson and Brandon Thompson struggled to make any significant headway against the bowling attack of Windward, with Johnson being run out by Naje Bishop, having just 11 runs from 11 balls in the 4th over. Ezra Oneale would replace Johnson, but was returned to the pavilion two overs later with a single run to his credit from 6 balls, bringing Deshawn Toppin to join Johnson in the middle. This paid had some measure of success, adding 40 runs to the score, when Johnson was bowled by Chad Williams in the 14th over, having scored 28 runs from 47 balls, and the scoreboard showing 62/3. Windward continued to keep the pressure on, resulting in three successive run outs, claiming the wickets of Roach, Strickland and Scott, for a combined score of 3 runs. The visitors from St. Lucy ended their innings with 113/8 in from 20 overs.

When play resumed after the break, Jafari Toppin and Tennyson Roach opened the batting for the Guys in Green & Gold and set about chasing the score set by Lords, Toppin hitting two 4’s and two 6’s in the very first over but was bowled by Romario Griffith on the last ball of the over, bringing Latrell Greenidge to join Roach. Greenidge made 49 runs from 26 balls, hitting four 6’s and two 4’s along the way, when he was bowled by Justin Strickland in the 12th over, the score now 102/2. Williams replaced Greenidge, and he along with Roach carried the score to 115/2 with 7 overs to spare, Roach having 23 not out, and Williams making 9 not out form 7 deliveries.
