Windward recognises it's finest.


Windward Cricket Club recognised their finest players during their annual awards evening when it was held at their Lucas Street clubhouse on Saturday February 1st. In what was a casual affair, members reminisced about the past seasons accomplishments while enjoying h'orderves and a few drinks prior to evenings main event. Club President, Richard Marshall thanked those on hand for attending as well as the various sponsors for supporting the club during the year before handing over the mic to Sean Thorton who acted as MC for part of the evening. First to be recognised for his outstanding season with most wickets taken in the Second Division was Dindial Ramrattan who took 27 wickets during the 12 matches of the season, which included a 7 wicket haul against Pickwick when he took 7 wickets for 70 runs. He was followed by captain of the Second Division, Andrew Thornton, who was awarded a trophy for most runs in the season with 505 runs, as well as most catches for the season. Next up was Ryan Wiggins who received his trophy for most runs in the Intermediate Division with 746, as well as most catches during the season. Jewaun Cumberbatch was next to be invited onto the stage to receive the Edward Clarke Trophy for the Most Outstanding Fielder of the year. This was followed by awards for centuries scored during the season, and the recipients were Raymond Thornton who scored 109 against Pickwick in a Second Division match, and 117 against Ellerslie School in an Intermediate match. His trophies were collected by his father, Charlie Thornton. Ryan Wiggins also was recognised for his centuries in Intermediate matches against Alexandra School, when he made 175 not out, and 131 against Boscobelle. The Limited Overs Player of the year went to Ronaldo Callender for his outstanding performance with both the bat and ball. Callender also was awarded the Ralph Farmer Memorial Award for outstanding junior cricket player. Next on stage was captain of the Intermediate team, Sean Thornton who received awards for Most Wickets in the Intermediate season with 49, which included a 7 wicket haul against Gladiola when he took 7 wickets for 74 runs. He was also awarded the prestigious Cricketer of the year plaque. The tennis team then had their turn at being recognised for their outstanding season, winning the InterClub Tennis tournament for the second straight year. Awardees from the tennis team were, Chloe Weekes, who was the first recipient of the Richard Marshall Plaque for the most outstanding junior tennis player. Matthew Hutchsinson was awarded the Most Outstanding Male Tennis Player, and this was accepted by Richard Marsh on Hutchinson's behalf. Lee-Anne Thornton was awarded Most Outstanding Female Tennis Player, as well as the prestigious Tennis Player of the Year plaque. Lance Castagne- Clermont was recognised as being the Most Promising Junior Tennis Player for 2019, before each of the tennis team members were awarded a trophy for being part of the championship winning team. The final award of the night, was presented to Anthony Bryan for his many years of service to the club, as he received the Lifetime Achievement Award to rounds of applause from those in attendance.
