Under 13's Fall to Pickwick

Dhaniram ‘DJ’ Dharamdeo made 54 runs and took 3 wickets for 31 runs in 5 overs.

Windward’s under 13 team had their run in the BCS U13 Cricket Tournament brought to an end on Friday April 28th, when they lost to Pickwick by 73 runs. Losing the toss and being put into field first under sunny skies with temperatures reaching the high 20’s on a very still day, the Novel Sports supported Windward side opened the bowling with Ben Shepherd from the Southern end, while Levi Rowe opened from the North. Opening the batting for Pickwick was Barbados National U15 player Justin Parris, who proved impossible to remove from the pitch, although they came close on three occasions but dropped the ball each time, Parris ending the innings with 131 not out from 86 balls. Shepherd took his first and only wicket on the day, when he bowled L. Archer out for 3 runs at the end of the 5th over, and would end the day allowing 28 runs from his 4 overs with the ball. Windward skipper Dhaniram ‘DJ’ Dharamdeo also had some success with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 31 runs in his 5 overs, while Alex Armstrong took 1 wicket for 26 runs in 4 overs. Malachi Pooler took the lone other wicket in the innings, when S Thorne was caught behind by Michael Symes. Pickwick ended the innings with 261/7 from 32 overs.

Malachi Pooler was awarded a trophy and BCS voucher for having joint “most catches in the tournament”

When play resumed after the lunch break, Armstrong and Pooler opened the batting for the Lucas Street Lads but struggled with the bowling of S. Thorne and A. Brandford, Armstrong being declared LBW having not opened his account, and Pooler being bowled by Thorne in the third over having 10 runs from 5 balls. Vice Captain Symes managed to get into a groove, as did Dharamdeo, who joined Symes for a 124 run partnership, which ended when Dharamdeo was caught by Parris in the 25th over having made 54 runs from 67 balls and Windward having made 143/3. Symes’ wicket would fall 2 overs later, him having made 38 runs from 62 balls and the score now 148/4, bringing Shepherd into join Alex Bowe in the middle. Bowe would be returned to the pavilion at the end of the 30th over having struck a 4, and making 2 singles when he was bowled by Brandford, bringing Steffano Springer to join Shepherd briefly before being bowled by C. Reifer on the first ball he faced. Michael Cossy and Shepherd would end the innings with 4 runs each, not out, and a score of 188/6 from 32 overs. Pickwick would go on to beat Empire in the finals at Queens Park, and be declared the Under 13 Cricket Champs for 2023. Congratulation to them!
