Under 13 handed first loss

Jelani Joseph top scored with 32 runs against Northern Cricket Academy

Our under 13 team played their first away game on Sunday when they faced the Northern Cricket Academy at Mahaica in Spieghtstown at mid-day. Losing the toss and put into field, the WCC side quickly drew first blood, when Josh Branch caught J. Holder-Mosely off the bowling of Matthew Lashley in the first over with no runs on the board, bringing D. Clarke to the crease. The pair of Clarke and T.Archer then added 52 runs in next 10 overs, when Clarke was dismissed LBW by Jelani Joseph. Alex Bowe's quick reactions help get the wicket of Boyce when he was run out having made 1 run off the 11 balls he faced, the score now 70/3. Dhaniram Dharamdeo took the wicket of Archer on the next ball, and things really looked promising for the Lucas Street lads when two balls later, Isaac Davis bowled N. Branch with no runs to his name, and the score now 70/5 with 20 overs remaining. The wicket of J. Corbin was next to fall when Davis bowled him with the score on 84/6 at the mid point of the innings. However the momentum of the game began to change at this point, as man of the match, Mekaili Worrell and D. Hurley added 64 runs to the score in the next 10 overs when Hurley was dismissed LBW off the bowling of Max Symes. R. Gibbons took his place at the crease, and he along with Worrell moved the score along to 162 with 5 overs remaining when Worrell was dismissed Leg Before Wicket off Lashley's bowling, having made 60 runs from 57 balls. Three overs later, C. Moore was caught by Josh Branch off the bowling of Jershaun Joseph and the score had increased to 177/9 with 2 overs remaining. Kai Shepherd took the final wicket of the innings when he dismissed Hurley, and a final score of 198 all out. After lunch, the guys of the green and gold had their turn at bat, with Rio Armstrong and Matthew Lashley opening the batting. Lashley's wicket was the first to fall, with the score on 31 in 10 overs, followed by Armstrong 2 balls later. The pair of Shepherd and Branch added a further 12 runs to the tally when Shepherd was dismissed LBW in the 13th over. Jelani Joseph joined Branch at centre and the pair carried the score to 68/4 when Branch was bowled by Corbin 4 overs later. Midway through the innings, the score was 68/5 and Jelani was now partnered with Aakash Ramchandani who helped carry the score to 83/6 with 15 overs remaining when Ramchandani was dismissed LBW. By the 30th over, the score had moved on to 132/9 thanks to a 46 run partnership between Jelani and Dharamdeo. When the final wicket fell, Windward had managed 134 all out in 31 overs, giving WCC Under 13 team their first loss of the season. Their next match is at Windward on Sunday March 8th when they host the Empire Colts.
