Windward’s first division suffered two losses over the weekend. Playing Gladiola at Rices on Saturday and being put into bat first, the Sagicor supported side suffered a batting collapse, with captain Latrell Greenidge having a top score of 24 not out, and Windward making 85 all out in 17.2 overs. The Lucas Street lads tried their best to restrict the home teams run rate, but in the end were beaten by 7 wickets. On Sunday they travelled to Queens Park to play Spartan in an 8 over a side match due to heavy rains during the day. Spartan won the toss and elected to put the Lucas Street lads into bat first, with Greenidge and Jafari Toppin opening the batting. Toppin would be the first returned to the pavilion having made 30 runs from 12 balls, four of them 6’s, and he would be joined by Greenidge in the next over, the score 55/2 from 3.3 overs. New comer to Windward, Chad Williams, managed to get 18 runs from 6 balls against his former team before being caught by Akeem Springer of the bowling of Renico Allyene in the 5th over, while Shakeem Blades made 14 off 15 balls faced. The Guys in Green & Gold ended their innings with 85/5 in their 8 overs at bat. When play resumed after the break, Akeem Springer and Shamarh Brooks opened the batting for the homeside, with Brooks’ wicket being the first to fall at the end of the opening over, having been caught by Cherran Thompson off the bowling of Matthew Alleyne, the score 15/1. Brooks was replaced by Marradon Bend who was bowled by Williams near the end of the third over, the score now 45/2 with 5 overs remaining. Springer was next to be returned to the pavilion, having made 31 runs from 17 balls before being caught by Alleyne of the bowling of Adjani Watkins and bringing Rico Webb to join Akil Greenidge in the middle. This pair added a further 35 runs to the score, winning the match on the second last ball of the innings. The First Division host Empire this Saturday, and Lords on Sunday at Lucas Street. Both matches get underway at 2:00pm.
