Tennis Team Off to Good Start

Windward's tennis team started their title defence of the Windward Agencies Inter-club Tennis Tournament on Saturday when they played host to the Barbados Yacht Club tennis team. First up were the men's doubles team of Jonathan Walcott and Matthew Hutchinson who took on Jason and Alexander Small and won that match 9 games to 5. Next up were Matthew Walcott and new comer Brandy Hayes in a mixed doubles match against Camila DeWitt & Christian Gill, with the visitors taking their lone victory of the day with a score or 4 games to 9. Other matches of the afternoon included ladies doubles team of Lee-Anne Thornton and Kristina Evelyn who faced Helen Roper and Lorrainne DaSilva. Thornton/Evelyn dispatched their opponents in 9 straight games, giving the home team a boost that carried through the rest of the afternoon. In the other ladies doubles match, Lori Phillips and new comer Danielle Cupid were victorious over the visiting duo of Judy Skinner and Patricia Murray to the tune of 9 games to 2. Richard Marsh & Gavin Hutchinson had a hard fought match against Brian Cadogan & James McKenzie, with Marsh/Hutchinson winning 9 games to 7, while things proved a bit easier for the pair of Lance Castagne-Clermont & Rick Taurel when they went up against Liam Gill & Colin Murray, winning that match with a score of 9 games to 2. In the other mixed doubles game, Andrew Thornton teamed up with Chloe Weekes and took on the pair of Donna Gibbs and James Johnson, defeating the BYC team with a score of 9-5. The final score of the match was Windward 58 to Barbados Yacht Club's 30. The team travels to Paragon on February 8th for their next match
