Second Division Win Season Opener.

Andrew Thornton hitting one of his seven boundaries on his way to scoring 55 on the day.

Windward's Second Division T20 season bowled off on Saturday when they hosted Melrose Sports Club under sunny skies at Lucas Street. Having lost the toss, Windward was put into bat first, with Glenmar Hinds and Joshua Walker opening for the home side. Hinds opened his account on the first delivery, getting two runs, then a single a few balls later, but that was all he was able to make, as he was caught at square leg on the first ball of the second over, bringing Tony Edghill to join Walker at the middle. Walkers wicket was next to fall, after being stumped by the wicket keeper Straker in the 8th over having made 17 runs and the score on 33. Next to the crease was Kemar Carter who along with Edghill took the score to 45 in the 10th over when Edghill was dismissed LBW on 12 runs bringing Andrew Thornton to bat. This pair added a further 44 runs in 5 overs when Carter was caught by Lowe at mid-wicket, and bringing Chris St. Hill into bat. St. Hill and Thornton continued to add to the total, taking the score to 113 when St. Hill was dismissed having made 5 runs. The Lucas Street lads ended their innings on 134 for 8 in their 20 overs, with a high score from Andrew Thornton who made 55.

After a brief break between innings, Windward took to the field, with captain Andrew Lythcott opening the bowling from the Southern end and allowing 6 runs in the over. Vice captain Dindial Ramrattan had bowling duties from the Northern end, and gave up 7 runs in his first over with the ball. Lythcott allowed another 5 runs in his second and final over with the ball while Ramrattan only permitted 2 more in his final over. With the score on 22 without loss at the end of the 4th over, Chris St. Hill was given the ball and he delivered, catching and bowling Olvis Carter who had made 13 runs from 21 balls, then Eustace Morris who was caught behind by Carter with the scoreboard showing 54 runs with 11 overs remaining. Nicholas Shepherd made a return to the green and gold after a 2 year absence, and had a little rust to knock off, giving up 10 runs in his first over, but settled down and ended the day with 2 wickets for 25 runs from 4 overs. Glenmar Hinds, took great pleasure in being given the opportunity to bowl against his former team, allowing just 17 runs from his 4 overs, and being involved in 2 run outs thanks to tight fielding by all involved. Rounding out the bowling attack for Windward was newcomer Micah Stuart, whose spin bowling gave Blenman, Skeete and Stoute from Melrose, difficulty, and he ended the day with figures of 2 wickets for 18 runs from 3.3 overs. The Lucas Street lads dismissed the visitors for 108 all out in 19.3 overs, and next face George Park at The Glebe cricket ground in St. George on Saturday (April 30th).
