Second Division Victorious over Central


Rio Armstrong ended the day with 2 wickets for 7 runs in 3 overs

On Sunday, the second division hosted Central Cricket Club at Lucas Street for the second round of the BCA T20 Plate Tournament. Winning the toss, captain Lamar Springer opted to field first and open the bowling from the northern end. Central’s vice captain. D. Forde quickly signalled his intention, sending the first delivery from Springer sailing over the boundary in an effortless 6 runs. Springer managed to recover from the initial blow, ending the over surrendering 5 additional runs. Rashoun Archer opened the bowling from the southern end, and despite bowling a few wild balls, managed to end the day with figures of 4 over 1 maiden for 20 runs . Forde’s wicket was taken by left arm spinner Sadiki Nurse at the start of the 5th over, with the score on 20/1. Nurse struck again in the 7th over when he claimed the wicket of Z. Browne, the score having moved on to 23/2, then D. Headley and J. Joseph partnered for 59 runs in 8 overs, taking the score to 82/3 when Joseph was caught and bowled by Rio Armstrong, his first wicket as a Windward senior team member. Armstrong would take the wicket of D. Waithe 2 overs later, ending the day with figures of 3 overs for 7 runs and 2 wickets. Max Symes struggled in his opening over, but claimed the wicket of D. Headley who had 52 runs when Micah Stuart took a catch in the 16th over. Kai Rollins took the final wicket of the innings when he bowled M. Willoughby at the start of the final over. Central would end their innings with 111/6 in 20 overs.When play resumed after the break, Glenmar Hinds and Micah Stuart opened the batting for the Guys in Green & Gold and quickly set about chasing down the visitors score, scoring 27 runs after 3 overs. Three overs later the score had moved to 56 without loss, and when Hinds was caught at the end of the 8th over having made 51, the score was now 71/1, bringing in Elon Davis. At the end of the 10th over the score had progressed to 83/1, and Stuart and Davis reached the required score in 12.2 overs, giving Windward the win by 9 wickets. Captain Lamar Springer had this to say afterwards; “This team looks different to any other Windward second division team i have ever seen. Sunday our team had ten guys under twenty four. It is great to see the overwhelming amount of young talent at the club who are willing to learn and eager to do well. We are moving in the right direction and i can see this team doing big things this year.”

The second division next plays Transport Board on the 22nd, and MappWest on the 23rd, both matches are at Lucas Street.
