Windward’s second division team gave it their all in the quarter final match against a very strong Barbados Defence Force side over the weekend. Winning the toss and inviting the soldiers to bat first, BDF put up a first innings score of 199/7 in 30 overs, with Shayne Mayers making 95 not out, T’Shane Miller 37 and Theo Chandler 27. Amari Wiggins took 2 wickets for 21 runs, with Cherran Thompson having 3 for 37. Windward managed 163 in their first innings response, with captain Lamar Springer having 58 not out and Elon Davis 27, and the Lucas Street side trailing the military men by 36 runs when play resumed on Sunday.
Windward’s bowling attack proved lethal in the opening overs on Sunday, led by club President, Andrew Lythcott who took 4 wickets for 29 runs, and Cherran Thompson with 2/21, limiting the soldiers to 90/8 at lunch, but T’Shane Miller once again put his bat to good use, making 77 runs, helping his team to a score133 all out in the second innings, Windward requiring 170 runs to win with about an hour of daylight remaining. The St. Philip side gave a good effort, carrying the score to 62/1 in 8 overs, then 90/2 after 11 overs. Glenmar Hinds made 50, and Elon Davis 25, but time was against the Lucas Street Lads, and they had to settle for 99/3 when the innings ended due to poor light, resulting in a draw game, and allowing Barbados Defence Force to proceed to the semi-final round of the tournament.
