Second Division Rained Upon

Windward's Second Division wicket keeper, Kemar Carter, prepares to take the catch dismissing Robin Trotman of Wibix
Catch it!

Windward's Second Division played their first home game of the season when they hosted Wibix on Saturday. Winning the toss, vice-captain Dindial Ramrattan opted to put the visitors into bat first, and gave the new ball to Taurean Best, who only allowed 7 runs from 4 overs last week. However Wibix batsman Ronald Pile was prepared and took 9 runs in the first over but Best managed to reign the rate back in his second over, only allowing 5, then a further 8 and taking his first and only wicket of the match in the 5th over, dismissing Robin Trotman, who was caught behind on 6 runs . Bowling from the northern end was Andrew Lythcott who only allowed 2 runs in his first over, and took the first wicket of the innings in his next over, when opener Pile was caught in slips by Lamar Springer. Lythcott ended the day with 2 wickets for 22 runs in 4 overs. Andre Archer replaced Best from the southern end and allowed 8 runs during his first over, another 4 in his second, and ended his spell with figures of 25 runs from 4 overs. Richard Cox brought his spin bowling attack for two overs from the northern end, then once more from the south, but struggled, allowing 9 runs in his first, 6 in his second, and 15 in his final over. At the half way mark of the innings, Wibix had managed to score 64 runs for the loss of 2 wickets but two overs later, Ramrattan claimed the wickets of Leon Waithe and Rawle Cumberbatch, the score now 76/4 with 8 overs remaining. Six overs later, P.J Rodriguez bowled Sean Chaltenham for 6 runs, but the score had advanced to 125. Ramrattan then took the final two wickets of the innings, bowling Julian Gibbons out for 9 and Matthew Jordan on his first ball, giving Ramrattan his second straight match in which he claimed 4 wickets. Wibix ended their innings with a score of 143/9 in 20 overs.

With thunder rolling in the distance and the sky growing increasingly darker, Niyim Joseph and Dave Sealy strode to the pitch to open the batting for the Lucas Street lads. Joseph opened his account on the second ball he faced, hitting two runs, followed by another quick double, and a single before the end of the over. Sealy got a quick single on his first ball, but then struggled to sneak any more past the quick Wibix fielders until he got a quick double on his 5th ball. Two balls later Sealy was bowled by Gibbons, having made just 3 runs from the 7 balls he faced, and the score 8/1 in just two overs. Veteran Tony Edgehill joined the young Joseph at centre, and tried their best to chip away at the score, with Joseph making some impressive shot selections through the gaps, and carrying the score to 61 when Edgehill was caught on 13 runs from 30 balls faced in the thirteenth over. Lamar "Bruiser" Springer, still nursing a leg injury, took his guard and hit the first ball he faced towards the boundary, but came up short, scoring 2 runs. Springer made no mistake with the next ball, and sent it racing over the boundary rope for four. With the rain beginning to fall heavily, the umpires halted the game with Windward on 70/2 from 14 overs, with Joseph on 36 not out from 60 balls and Springer 8 not out from 5 balls. Wibix was awarded the win due to having a faster run rate. Pictures from this match can be seen on our facebook page and website.

The Second Division host Police at Lucas Street this coming Saturday.
