Windward's Intermediate side played host to Brereton on Saturday May 7th under sunny skies. Losing the toss and being put into field first, captain Alan Branch put Winston Chase to open the bowling from the northern end. Chase gave up 5 runs in the first over, but reined in the run rate, allowing just another 5 runs in his 3 remaining overs, ending the day having surrendered 10 runs. From the southern end, now in his fifth match for the green and gold, Jonathan Griffith challenged all the batsman facing him with very accurate out-swingers, and allowed just 2 runs in his opening over, then took a wicket and gave up a single in his second, then improved on that with a maiden over and another wicket in his third over, and ended the day having taken 4 wickets while giving up just 8 runs in his four overs with the ball. The spin attack of Kai Rollins and Shakeem Blades mesmerised the Brereton batsmen, with Rollins taking 2 for 12 in his 4 overs and Blades taking 3 for 5 in 3.1 overs. Brereton, being one man short, ended their innings having made 39 for 9 in 15.1 overs.
Opening the batting for the Sagicor supported Windward side were Player/Coach, Jafari Toppin and Latrell Greenidge. Having made a record breaking 168 the week before, Toppin took his time to get settled, opening his account on the fifth ball he faced, which he dispensed to the boundary for four, the first of five he would get on the day, along with a six, to end on 32 not out, with Greenidge adding a 4 of his own to end the day on 6 not out. Windward surpassed the target in 4 overs, ending with 40 without loss.
The Lucas Street lads next play Lester Vaughn School on Saturday May 14th, then on Sunday May 15th, host BNOC, both games will be played at 2pm.
