Windward'
s Intermediate side had a busy weekend, first traveling to Trents, St. James to play Maple on Saturday, then on Sunday, facing Yorkshire at Friendship ground, St. Michael. Under sunny skies and winning the toss at Trents, the Sagicor supported side, opted to field first. Opening the bowling for the Lucas Street lads was the evergreen Winston Chase, who allowed 5 runs in the over, and ended the day with 1 wicket for 14 runs in 4 overs with the ball. Taking the first wicket of the match, and his first wicket as a WCC member, was Jonathan Griffith, when he bowled opening batsman, K. Payne in the fourth over with the score at 24. The next wicket was that of Tudor, who was caught behind by Latrell Greenidge from Chase in the 7th over, and score now at 39. It wasn't until the 16th over, with the score having moved onto 92, that the next wickets fell, both by the hand of Sean Thornton, dismissing J. Worrell on 27, and B. Yearwood on 5 runs. Thornton ended the day with bowling figures of 5 wickets for 20 runs in 3 overs. Newcomer Rashoun Archer managed to take two more Maple wickets while giving up 18 runs in his 2 overs with the ball, with Maple making 130 for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs.
Windward's turn at bat was not as productive as their opponents, making just 75 runs all out, with high scores from Jafari Toppin who made 26 and Vice Captain, Shakeem Blades getting 19, and losing to Maple by 56 runs.
Hoping to bounce back after a disappointing opening match, Blades lost the toss to Yorkshire on Sunday, and the boys of the green and gold were put into field with temperatures reaching 31C on the day. Griffith opened the bowling, and immediately took the first wicket, dismissing A.Glasgow on the first ball of the match. Later that same over, Griffith struck again, sending D. Husbands back to the pavilion having no runs to his name. Winston Chase took the wicket of J. Hall in the third over, Yorkshire now on 12 runs for 3 wickets. Griffith struck again in the sixth over, bowling D. Griffith out for 10 runs and the score now on 27. Yorkshire continued to haemorrhage wickets, losing two more by the half way mark, the scoreboard now showing 54 runs for 6 wickets, and were eventually bowled out for 81 runs in 16.5 overs, with Griffith and Matthew Alleyne taking 3 wickets each, Chris St. Hill capturing 2, and Blades and Chase taking 1 a piece.
Lamar Springer and Jafari Toppin opened the batting for the Lucas Street lads, with Springer losing his wicket after facing 7 balls having made a single run off T. Legall, and bringing Sean Thornton to join Toppin at the middle. Windward managed to meet the required 82 runs to win in 12.1 overs for the loss of 5 wickets, with Toppin making almost half of required runs, ending the day on 40.
The Intermediate host Carlton Club this Saturday (April 30th) and then Wanderers on Sunday (May 1st).
