Windward won the toss on Saturday and elected to put Empire in to bat first when they met in the 5th round of the BCA T20 Cup tournament. The visitors got off to a decent start, having scored 42 runs when the first wicket fell in the 5th over when Chad Williams claimed his first wicket of the day. However Empire soon found themselves on the backfoot when Matthew Alleyne claimed his first wicket in the very next over with just one run having been added to the score. Empire continued to struggle, losing the next wicket compliments of Maxwell Lewis, in the 10th over, and having added just 14 runs in that time, the scoreboard showing 57/3. Two overs later, with 19 runs added to the score, Lewis struck again, taking the wicket of Shaquille Cumberbatch, which was followed by Andre Roach being run out by Lewis, with the score on 105/5 with less than 5 overs remaining. Lewis would claim his third wicket of the innings when he bowled opening batsman Jai-Bari Yarde, Yarde having made 62 runs from 52 balls faced. Not to be left out of the wicket taking, Shakeem Blades claimed that of Jarion Hoyte in the 18th over, while Williams took the final two wickets of the innings, giving him 18 runs, 3 wickets from 4 overs. Empire scored 134/9 in their 20 overs.
Opening the batting for the Guys in Green & Gold were the pair of Jafari Toppin and Tennyson Roach who both had difficulty with the Empire bowling, Toppin being caught on the fifth ball of the opening over, with just 5 runs in his account and Roach would be caught out two overs later, having 12 runs and the score on 24/2. Latrell Greenidge and Chad Williams would put together a 29 run stand, when Greenidge was caught by Thierry Walcott in the 7th over, bringing Lewis to join Williams in the middle. This partnership was short-lived, with Williams being run out on 14 in the following over. Blades would replace Williams and in conjunction with Lewis, would put another 21 runs on the board when Blades was returned to the pavilion in the 12th over, bringing Naje Bishop into bat. Bishop would end the day on 40 not out from 22 balls, hitting four 6’s and two 4’s, while Lewis ended the innings on 22 not out from 35 balls. Windward won the match by 5 wickets.
