Having to postpone the clubs 100th anniversary celebration planned for 2021 due to the Covid Pandemic, the 100th Anniversary Committee, lead by Ed Clarke did a marvellous job of putting together a function to recognise the milestone and those who got us there on November 19th 2022. In his opening remarks, President of the club, Richard Cox, thanked those present for attending, especially the Honourable Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley for taking time from her busy schedule to join the celebration and share her thoughts with those gathered. Cox thanked long time sponsor, Sagicor Life, for their continued support and appealed to both the Ministry of Sport and the Barbados Cricket Association to form a task force with a view to saving club cricket in Barbados, as it is in dire straights and serves a great purpose in today's society.
Prime Minister Mottley echoed this sentiment, explaining why it was important for sporting clubs, such as Windward, to continue to strive to help their members and act as mentors to those in need within the club, as too many youth are lacking guidance and assistance, and clubs can offer this guidance and assistance to it's members and possibly the nearby community. She ended by saying that "Sir Gary Sobers would not be satisfied with making 100 not out, and neither should Windward."
Master of Ceremony duties were shared between Andrew Lythcott and Roger Martin, and they kept the audience entertained and informed throughout the event. First to the podium was Lythcott, who had the honour of inviting Janet Armstrong, Ralph Armstrong, Maureen Bryan, Ed Clarke, Kim McKinnon (on behalf of her father Mark Corbin), Desmond Durant, Clyde Gibson, Cody Foster (on behalf of his grandfather Robin Hunte), Roger Martin, Charles Thornton, John Thornton, Yvette Thornton, Ronald Watson, and Gina Weekes to accept their awards in recognition of their administrative service to the club. They were followed by Ralph "Ram" Edghill, who was recognised for his significant contribution to football at Windward, Andrew Hutchinson for his significant contribution to hockey at Windward, and Reggie Taylor for his significant contribution to Darts at Windward. The next group to be recognised for their contributions to the club, were those responsible for growing the sport of tennis, and representing the club successfully in competition. First up was Kristina Evelyn, who was followed by Michael Hutchinson, Sue Rogers, Yvette Thornton, Kathryn Ward, Andrew Thornton and Richard Marshall. Roger Martin took over Master of Ceremony duties and started with the cricket awards, inviting Charles Thornton for outstanding performance as a wicket keeper with 354 catches and 300 stumpings, Walter Short, Peter Farmer (represented by his grandson Liam Farmer), Hensley Robinson, and Mark Weekes, for 5th to 2nd most wickets taken respectively, and Geoffrey Marshall, Alan Branch, Ian Weekes, and Andrew Straughn, for 5th to 2nd most runs all time. Next up was the award for Most Spectacular Individual Sporting Performance, which was given to David "Drake" Edghill for his scoring a double century and taking all 10 wickets in a single innings, both during the 1965 season. Collecting the award was his brother, Keith "Gabby" Edghill. Richard Cox and Charlie Thornton were then jointly invited to accept their awards for Top Wicket Taker, Cox having 803 thus far, and Top Run Scorer, Thornton having 9,598 runs to his credit. The families of Armstrong, Farmer and Thornton, were then recognised for their significant contribution to the development of the club through different generations. Chris Armstrong received on behalf of the Armstrong family, Judy Hart on behalf of the Farmer family, and Sean Thornton for the Thornton family. The last two awards of the night were given to club icons, Richard Marshall and Anthony Bryan, for their unwavering support and devotion to Windward Cricket Club through many decades. The ceremony was brought to a close by Committee Chairman, Ed Clarke, who gave his vote of thanks to all present.
